Wits Sakai: How to Log into Wits University eLearning Portal

Wits Sakai is a learning management system for students of Wits university. The eLearning platform is built on Sakai.

Sakai is an open-source collaboration and learning environment which is in enterprise use at 200 Universities around the world with over a million users who use it daily in their teaching and learning.

Aside from the University of the Witwatersrand which is part of the 200 varsities on the eLearning platform, other African universities are on it as well. North-West University eFundi, UG Sakai are members.

Wits Sakai’s user interface is modern, easy to use, and accessible. Thanks to Sakai’s responsive design, lecturers and students can achieve their academic goals no matter where they are or what device they use.

How to log into wits Sakai

Wits Sakai login page has a simple and clean user interface. It’s located at the top right corner on the page, whilst the menu is on the left.

To sign in,

  1. follow this link: wits-e.wits.ac.za/portal
  2. enter your username (user-id)
  3. enter your password.

Your username is your student number.

Your password is the same password you use to login to a Wits computer and your Wits student mail.

How to reset your password

If you would like to change your wits password, you can do so at any time. Forgot your password?

No problem!

If you ever forget your password, you can reset it yourself without calling the Wits ICT Service Desk. There’s a simple way you can reset it.

To reset your password, click on passwordreset.wits.ac.za/

Enter your username and click on the “Next” button

Follow the processes on the wits self service portal to reset your password.

Note: To get your WITS number, replace the first two digits of your ICAM Number with a “W” and leave out the last two digits, i.e. ICAM “222222222 52” becomes “W2222222” and ICAM “000234567 01” becomes “W0234567”.

Pro tip: Select a password that is at least 8 characters in length, that does not contain your name, username, phone number, birthday, or other personal information. It is best to include a mix of numbers, symbols, and/or capital and lowercase letters in your new password.

Always remember and keep your Wits Sakai password safe.
