Course requirements

A 65% average in the preceding NQF-level 8 qualification (or equivalent) is required for admission to the programme, along with one of the following:

  • An honours degree in Education, or related discipline (e.g. Human Resource Development). Non-South African students need to apply to SAQA for verification of the equivalence of the entry qualification.
  • A suitable professional bachelor’s degree plus a teacher’s diploma/teaching qualification and work experience in the proposed field of specialisation, ICT in Education. The disciplinary knowledge of such candidates will be assessed by the programme coordinator and another disciplinary expert. A reading programme may be prescribed prior to allowing registration.
  • An appropriate honours degree and a teacher’s diploma/teaching qualification, plus work experience in the field of specialisation, ICT in Education. The disciplinary knowledge of such candidates will be assessed by the programme coordinator and another disciplinary expert in the field of specialisation.   • Prospective candidates may, based on extensive and verifiable experience in the discipline ICT in Education, apply for recognition of prior learning, within institutional policy guidelines.

Their experience should be on the level and scope of NQF-level 8 within the discipline, and should include appropriate research methodological knowledge and skills.

During the selection process, the programme coordinator will consider the career history of applicants.

The programme coordinator may also request applicants to perform certain discipline related writing or practical skills tasks as means of assessing the breadth and depth of their knowledge and skills, before finalising admission decisions.

Any applicant who has an internationally acquired tertiary qualification, may be requested to submit a SAQA evaluation certificate.

The programme coordinator can, in conjunction with the Head of Department, make a recommendation to the Dean to admit students to the programme if their average marks for the previous qualification are between 60% and 64%, and there are places available in the programme.

In such cases, the programme coordinator will holistically assess the prior assessment results of applicants, and consider performance in research-related modules, and other discipline-related modules.

7. Advanced diploma in financial markets

A student should have one of the following:

  • New/Old NQF level 6 qualification with 3 years’ relevant work experience in financial markets; or
  • New/Old NQF level 6 qualification in Finance; or
  • 5 years’ relevant work experience in financial markets.

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not assure acceptance into the programme as all students will be subjected to a selection process as determined by the Department of Finance and Investment Management.

For the students with a NQF level 6 qualification with 3 years relevant work experience and students with only relevant work experience, an entrance exam will be written to determine if the student has the necessary foundation knowledge to proceed with the Advanced Diploma.

If the student does not pass the exam, the student will be able to do certain short learning programmes (which are in development) so that their knowledge is at the correct level before doing the Advanced Diploma.

This entrance exam is one of the methods that will be used to determine the knowledge level and understanding of potential students.

The decision to recommend admission is made by the programme coordinator who will evaluate prospective students (via Skype or by other appropriate means). During the selection process, the programme coordinator will consider the career history of applicants.

The programme coordinator may also request applicants to perform certain discipline related writing or practical skills tasks as means of assessing the breadth and depth of their knowledge and skills, before finalising admission decisions.

It is a further requirement that students who wish to enroll for this programme have strong general computer skills, and that they have reliable access to the internet, as the programme is offered wholly online, and students without reliable internet access will not be able to participate fully in the learning activities for each module.

8. Advanced diploma in transportation management

Advanced diploma in transportation managementThe purpose of the AdvDip (Transportation Management) is to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of Transportation Management for prospective students who are currently middle managers, or aspire towards middle management, in order to apply the principles of transport management in their working environment.

The programme makes provision for the development of knowledge and applied competence related to transport policy and legislation, transport planning and management, logistics processes and practices, project management and transport operations and costing.

The inclusion of research methodology and a research project, as well as a practical simulation module in which students will be required to apply their acquired theoretical knowledge to current industry-related challenges, offers students the opportunity to balance theory and practice.

The exit-level outcomes of the AdvDip (Transportation Management) programme are aligned with the level descriptors stipulated on Level 7 of the NQF, since students are required to apply theoretical knowledge to complex problems and to present such application as a well-structured argument using academic discourse.

Each module in the AdvDip (Transportation Management) programme contributes to achieving Level 7 level descriptors, because students are expected to demonstrate integrated knowledge of the central areas of one or more fields:

  • Identify, analyse, evaluate, critically reflect on and address complex problems; manage processes in unfamiliar and variable contexts.
  • Develop their own ideas and express them using appropriate academic, professional or occupational discourse.

Admission requirements

An applicant must hold a relevant NQF level 6 qualification with Transportation as specialisation. Alternatively, an applicant must have completed the UJ bridging programme for entering the Advanced Diploma in Transportation Management.
