There are 4 ways to do SASSA online application.

How to apply for Sassa via Whatsapp

  1. Send WhatsApp message to 082 046 8553.
  2. Next, provide your personal details as prompted by the chat.
  3. You will then receive a Reference number, an OTP number, and the website link to click on.
  4. Click on the link, insert the OTP number and click verify.
  5. Provide your surname and ID number.
  6. Confirm your details as per the details you provided on the chat.
  7. Agree to the terms and conditions. Read and agree to the Declaration and Consent Document. Agree to and understand the contents of the You and Your Special COVID-19 SRD Grant document.
  8. Provide your personal details such as your ID Number, Name, Surname as printed on the ID Document/ Card, and other personal information, e.g., address, gender, etc.
  9. Next, provide your banking details and choose your payment option.
  10. You will receive an SMS on your mobile phone like this…Application ID: 123456, 88…081. SASSA confirms successful update of banking details for BANK NAME. 
  11. Your SRD R350 Grant application is now active.

How to apply for Sassa via the SRD website

  1. Open your Internet browser.
  2. Navigate to srd.sassa.gov.za.
  3. Capture your ID number and mobile, then click on the Send SMS button.
  4. You will receive a 6 digit OTP number.
  5. You must insert the OTP number and click verify pin.
  6. Confirm your details as per the details you provided on the chat.
  7. Agree to the terms and conditions. Read and agree to the Declaration and Consent Document. Agree to and understand the contents of the You and Your Special COVID-19 SRD Grant document.
  8. Provide your personal details such as your ID Number, Name, Surname as printed on the ID Document/ Card, and other personal information, e.g., address, gender, etc.
  9. Next, provide your banking details and choose your payment option.
  10. You will receive an SMS on your mobile phone like this…Application ID: 123456, 88…081. SASSA confirms successful update of banking details for BANK NAME. 
  11. Your SRD R350 Grant application is now active.

How to apply for Sassa via the SASSA chatbot

  1. Open an Internet browser.
  2. Navigate to www.sassa.gov.za.
  3. On the website, click on the SRD R350 Grant assistance chatbox.
  4. Provide your ID number and Mobile number.
  5. Through the chat, choose “I want to apply for SRD R350 grant“.
  6. The chatbot will provide a link to the SRD Website.
  7. Follow the SRD Website Steps.
  8. Agree to the terms and conditions. Read and agree to the Declaration and Consent Document. Agree to and understand the contents of the You and Your Special COVID-19 SRD Grant document.
  9. Provide your personal details such as your ID Number, Name, Surname as printed on the ID Document/Card, and other personal information, e.g., address, gender, etc.
  10. Next, provide your banking details and choose your payment option.
  11. You will receive an SMS on your mobile phone like this…Application ID: 123456, 88…081. SASSA confirms successful update of banking details for BANK NAME. 
  12. Your SRD R350 Grant application is now active.

If your application is declined, you have the right to request reconsideration within 30 days of receiving the declined reason.

You also have the right to request reconsideration for each month that the application is declined.

To apply for reconsideration;

  1. Visit the SRD Website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za.
  2. Under the Application for Reconsideration tab, click here to apply for reconsideration.
  3. Contact SASSA Toll-Free Call center on 0800 60 10 11 to request reconsideration if you face challenges.

How to cancel your SRD grant application

  1. Visit SRD Website srd.sassa.gov.za.
  2. Under the Cancel my Application tab: click here to cancel online.
  3. Provide your ID number and mobile number, then click send pin.
  4. You will receive an SMS with 6 digit OTP number.
  5. You must insert the OTP number and click verify pin.
  6. Click cancel my grant.
  7. A message will pop up to ask if you are sure about the cancellation of the grant.
  8. Click YES to continue with the cancellation; Click NO to Discard.

SRD grant reinstatement

  1. Visit SRD Website srd.sassa.gov.za.
  2. Under the Cancel my Application tab, reinstate my canceled grant application.
  3. Provide your ID number and mobile number, then click send pin.
  4. You will receive an SMS with 6 digit OTP number. 
  5. You must insert the OTP number and click verify pin.
  6. Agree to terms and Conditions.
  7. Click reinstate my grant.
  8. A message will pop up to ask if you are sure about the reinstatement of the grant.
  9. Click YES to continue with the reinstatement; Click NO to Discard.

SASSA application eligibility

  • You must be a South African Citizen.
  • You must either be a registered refugee or have a permanent residence with verifiable details in the home affairs database.
  • You must hold a special permit under the Zimbabwe exemption permit dispensation, special Angolan dispensation, and Lesotho exemption permit dispensation.
  • You must be between the age of 18 and 59 as of the time of application.
  • Unemployed citizens.
  • You must not be a resident of a government-funded or subsidized institution.
  • You must be living within the Republic of South Africa.
  • You must not be a current beneficiary of other coronavirus response support.
  • You must not be benefiting from a social grant.
  • You must be a caregiver who is not already a beneficiary of any other grant will be for the SASSA application during the lockdown.
  • You must not be a beneficiary of an employment insurance benefit.

Documents needed to apply for Sassa

You will need to provide the following information

  • Identity Number or Department of Home Affairs Refugee permit number.
  • Name and Surname as captured in the Identity Document.
  • Gender and Disability.
  • Contact details – Cell phone number.
  • Residential Address.

How to submit your banking details to sassa

To submit banking details during your SASSA online application, follow the instructions below.

New applicants

  1. If you have your Personal Bank Account;
    • Choose Bank Name
    • Provide Account number
    • Provide Branch Name
    • Provide Account Type
    • Agree to Terms and Conditions
    • Submit Banking Details
  2. If you are without a Personal Bank account;
    • Choose Payment option- Cash Send
    • Agree to Terms and Conditions
    • Submit Banking Details

Existing beneficiaries

  1. Confirm your Existing Personal Banking Details
    • Agree to Terms and Conditions
    • Click Submit
  2. Beneficiaries with Cash send Option who wish to add bank details
    • Choose Bank Name
    • Provide Account number
    • Provide Branch Name
    • Provide Account Type
    • Agree to Terms and Conditions
    • Submit Banking Details

How to change Sassa banking details

If you are an approved beneficiary of the SASSA SRD R350 Grant and wish to change your banking details, please submit your ID Number below. 

  1. Navigate to srd.sassa.gov.za.
  2. Scroll down to “How do I change my banking details.”
  3. Type your ID Number in the input box.
  4. Click on the “Submit” button.
  5. An SMS containing a secure link, unique to you, will be sent to the mobile phone number you registered during the SASSA online application process. 
  6. Click on the link in the SMS and follow the instructions carefully.
  7. Should you select payment into a bank account, ensure that you are the bank account owner. 

SASSA cannot pay your grant into another person’s bank account. Should you select the money transfer option via one of the major banks, ensure that the mobile phone number you received the SMS is registered in your name. 

SASSA cannot pay your grant into a mobile phone number registered to another person. Also, note that the new banking details will only be used for future payments after verification.
